Course Title: “From Kits to Creativity!”

Our latest course is a mixture of presentation, discussion and practical hands-on designing and making. It will focus on electrical circuits, discrete electronic systems & components and provide strategies for the delivery of more creative S&C (Systems and Control) projects in the classroom. Teachers now using or wanting to introduce microcontroller based activities will find this information highly relevant when interfacing inputs and outputs with their PIC devices.

Who should Attend:

This course will be suited to teachers with little or no S&C  experience through to established S&C teachers currently reviewing their schemes of learning and approaches to the teaching of S&C.

Key learning objectives of the course will include:

  • An improved understanding of the designing and making expectations for S&C within the range and content of the D&T 2008 NC (National Curriculum);
  • Awareness of aspects of technology teaching that Ofsted considers to be in need of development in many schools. …”(Meeting Technological Challenges, Ofsted, 2011)
  • A spiral model for the delivery of S&C electronics in Years 7, 8 and 9.
  • Commonly used Key Stage 3 electrical and electronic components, circuits, systems and software resources to introduce pcb designing and virtual soldering.
  • Modelling and making of example projects to take away and use within KS3;
  • Exploration of the definition of “Creativity” within the NC and resources teachers can use to introduce “guided” creativity in their Key Stage 3 S&C projects.

 After the Meeting:

There will be a follow-up web forum, handouts and free software copy of Project Tools Lite supplied for teachers to further develop their understanding and project ideas.
